Lower-Back-Pain SalinasOne of the most common ailments people suffer from is lower back pain.  These conditions can be divided into two types; acute and chronic lower back pain. Acute back pain is short-term and generally lasts from anywhere between a few days and a few weeks. It is often caused by trauma to the area as a result of an accident or physical stress. Chronic back pain lasts longer than three months.  Chronic pain can come and go with specific activities, and it may even go away at times with rest, but return again with things like prolonged sitting, prolonged standing or walking, gardening, doing laundry or dishes, or a variety of what would be normal daily activities. Whichever the type, lower back pain eventually affects many of us at any age.  These conditions, if left untreated, causes the spinal discs to lose fluid, and decay.  The involved bones will start to degenerate effecting the neighboring nerves.

Common Causes:

  • Bones out of alignment (subluxation)
  • Falls
  • Work injuries
  • Sleeping wrong
  • Sitting too long throughout the day
  • Lifting/moving heavy objects like furniture
  • Prolonged stooping or bending
  • Over use
  • Chronic/old conditions “resurfacing”
  • Arthritis
  • Disc herniation

Common Symptoms:

  • Achy pain
  • Burning pain
  • Throbbing sensations
  • Tightness or stiffness
  • Sharp pain with specific motions or positions
  • Stabbing sensations
  • Numbness
  • Pain shooting down one or both legs

How Chiropractic Can Help:

First, we need to determine if what you’re suffering from is a chiropractic case.  Is your condition something we can help you with or not?  We will analyze the spine by exam and X-ray to look for bones out of normal position which may be causing pressure on the nerves (also known as subluxation). When subluxations get bad enough, you will experience pain. Our job is to detect and correct the subluxations by adjusting the spine to relieve the pressure on the nerve.
