There are many different types of headaches including migraines, cluster headaches, tension headaches, and caffeine headaches. Simply typing the term into Google pulls up 12-14 different varieties. Two of the most common you may see are;
Tension Headache: Many people suffer from this type of headache, in fact more than any other type of headache. It is often described as pressure at the front or temple area of the head, similar to the feeling of your head being squeezed in a vice.
Cervicogenic Headache: This is the type of headache that chiropractic can help the most, although most headaches can be helped to some degree if there is nerve involvement. Cervicogenic headaches are often thought of and felt in the head, but the problem is actually a neck issue that refers pain to the head.
If you have an immediate onset of severe pain like you’ve never experienced before, this could be very serious, and it’s recommended you go to an emergency room immediately.
Any neck issues can cause headaches (see Neck Pain). Many other causes of headaches include:
- Chemicals (prescription drugs, alcohol, etc.)
- Trauma from an accident
- Pain around the eye, face or top of the head in specific spots
- Back of the head in specific spots
- Throbbing temples
- You may experience mild or sever pain in the neck too
